Hello,

I have a collection of about 100 DVDs I need to rip in about 2 days. I have a 16x DVD rom drive I am going to do the ripping with, and a 4X DVD+RW drive I am going to do the writing with.

I have burned about 10 discs aready using DVD Decrypter, Nero, and DVD shrink. I have done all the ripping just with DVD Decrypter.

What I want to know is when I am ripping the max speed I am able to get with DVD Decrypter is about 6.4X , when my DVD drive can read up to 16X? Is there any way I can make it rip at 16X? Is there any reason it is ripping so slow? Any other faster rippers?

Thanks, Kyle

Is 6.4x the average speed or the peak? Also are you talking about single layer or dual layer discs? If it's the average speed on a dual layer disc it's probably as fast as you're going to get. And the limitation isn't Decrypter, it's the fact that dual layer media has to be read at a slower speed because the 1s and 0s are twice as close together as on single layer. I have a Lite-On 166s, which is a very good DVD-ROM for ripping, and that's about the speed I get.

There are some software combinations that could speed things for you.

1. AnyDVD-Intervideo DVDCopy2 Platinum. AnyDVD runs in the background to unlock the copy protection. DVDCopy2 does everything else including the burn. Intervideo claims Platinum is 25% faster than the Gold version. DVDCopy2 is also known for making a very good copy.

2. DVD Decrypter-DVD2One-Nero. With this combo, you would chose the "Movie Only" option with DVD2One, thus shortening the encode time.

For what it is worth, if you are planning on doing any of the tasks concurrently on the same computer, you are likely to get all sorts of bad results with the backup.
