Hi, here's my problem.
Specs:
HP Pavilion Invent
3.0Ghz P4 (HT)
512 DDR PC3200 RAM
HP DVD Writer 400c
I recently bought a 25-pack "CQ: Great Quality" 8x DVD+R recordables. My burner supports 8x DVD+R writing. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c00060939
When I burn a 4.3 GB DVD data disc at 8x with Nero 6 ultra, it is supposed to burn in 7-8 minutes, correct? The "Remaining Time" displays 7~ minutes, it even shows the Status: Writing at 8x (11,080 KB/s) but after 7~ minutes are up, the remaining time is at 0 and the files continue to burn, with only a 50% completion. After about 15 minutes the DVD disc completely burns. 15 minutes is 4x speed. Does anyone know what the problem is? Why does it take 15 minutes to burn a DVD disc at 8x when it even shows 8x? It also takes 15 minutes with RecordNow! Software

Very strange...
Here some suggestions:
- Update your DVD-Recorder firmware, and also your Nero software.
- Try another DVD+R brand to see if there is a problem with your current media.
- Note if the recording process is carried out normally, or if buffer underrun occurs all the time (causing delay).
I assume that you burn on your DVD, files from the HD not directly from a DVD-R Rom.
Hope it helps.

Did you buy your "Great Quality" discs at Fry's Electronics by chance? The brand name of the those discs is truly an oxymoron since that media is low-quality at best.
One of the problems with low quality media is that they sometimes won't burn at their rated speed.
totos' advice was great as well. A firmware update for your drive could help, updating Nero would be good and trying better media such as Ritek G05 or Verbatim Metal AZO would definitely help you to isolate whether your problem is media related or not :)

I noticed the discs were identified as PRODISC. I had very bad luck with that brand and they are considered low quality discs. I currently use RITEK/RiData discs and they work wonderful for me. www.allmediaoutlet.com has some good deals on discs if you are interested

Prodisc are a good quality disc if branded prodisc.
The 4x discs burn at 8x on my 2500a burners. No errors on any of my movies.
It is likely the burner doesn't support this brand at 8x.
You can look for a firmware update. It could help.
Or you could just switch to Ritek.

I also got the CDs from Great Quality(GQ) from Fry's:) And I was actually able to burn the CD using Roxio Easy CD creator. But when I try to play it, gives me the message D:/ not accessible. So is there any way in which I can fix this problem? It will be great if someone can guide me as what to do. Thanks

Sounds like a bad burn. I don't recomend roxio. If you just copying a CD try the nero demo. It should fix your problem. Let us know.
If your backing up a DVD then try DVDdecrypter and DVDshrink.
