I have burnt a dvd using nero6 and a Mr.Data dvd-rw. This was successful but didnt play on my standalone dvd player- lecson 900. (But did play on others, even though it should play on mine also).

So i tried Mirror platinum dvd+r discs.
Nero opens a screen where it is checking the disc in the drive "waiting for disc..." appears. When it has timed out and should start burning it doesnt. Nothing happens.

I also tried clonedvd. Same thing.

Is it a problem the dvd drive has with the media?
The drive is Toshiba SD-R6112.
I thought mirror discs had good compatibility ???

Hope you can help...

Good media never helps ... But I think it's your Toshiba player. A few people lately have had playback problems with their Toshiba players(no matter what media they use).

If you click search, and look up "toshiba" you'll find the threads.

Having read this thread again i dont think i was very clear. I am having two problems:
1. My laptop dvdrw drive (Toshiba SD-R6112) cant burn to mirror platinum discs, but i have read that they are of good quality and compatibility. I dont know why or what other different brands i should be using. (will try Ritek now though)
2. I did manage a successfull burn with a really cheap brand, but it then wouldnt play in my lecson 900 standalone dvd player, but did play in other dvd players.
All a bit confusing to a dvd newbie.

Hi. Mirror Platinum DVD media are crap! Really, they are of the lowest quality possible. Try Ritek G04 as sly_61019 told you, but be careful because there are some fakes out there. If you can find Traxdata or Ridata (made by Ritek Grade A), it would be the best. Also the highest quality of all, in my opinion, are TY (Taiyo Yuden), you can find this under TDK and Maxell DVDs sometimes. Verbatims are very high quality too.

Sometimes its true that some DVD-ROMs or players are less capable than others, but with high quality media the problem is usually overcome.

ANDY_NEW,
When I first started burning I could nly get Mirror DVD-R and had a very poor success rate with Sony 510a drive, mirrors had a very pale dye,now there are Mirror Platinum,s with the darker dye but have not tried them,Go with the Ritek G04,s you will not regret it

i tried verbatim, as that is what they sell at a local shop, and they were recommended as being of good quality. They worked great.
Thanks again everyone.
