I've been trying this for a week with no luck!

I've tried the guide here: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/convert_avi_to_dvd.cfm

and TMPGEnc says it will take 75 hours!!!! I know i have a slow pc (1Ghz) but i cannot wait that long to see if it will work or not.

Is there any other methods to convert 2 700MB avi files to 1 dvd disc that will play in a standalone dvd player.

I'm at my witts end, i've searched, i've read loads of guides and everyone points to the above method.

Do you join the files first, if so with what?.
or do you convert the files seperatly and join them in a menu making programme??

How do you convert? with what prog?

What's Authoring?

once i used Aare converter, it took overnight to convert but then said couldn't change file name at the end, and lost the whole 6GB conversion.!!!! ARGH!
If this did work how do i get 6 GB down to 4.5GB?

this must be a standard process that people do, as joining avi's and playing them on a dvd player is a very comman thing i imagine.

please please help

Cheers

75 hours for encoding!!!? This is crazy... Your PC may be slow, but thats not normal.

I will try to help you a bit. In my opinion, all you have to use is Pinnacle Studio (latest version is 9, 8 is OK too).

As you open Pinnacle software, you will see 3 tabs: "Capture" , "Edit", and "Make Movie". You ignore the first, as you dont want to capture video, you already have your AVI file. So:

- Click on the "Edit" tab. Then click on the folder at the right, and locate your AVI file on your PC. Open it.

- At this point Pinnacle may proceed to scene detection, just wait a bit.

- Make sure that in the View Menu, "StoryBoard" is selected. Then, select all the scenes that you want to be included in your video. Drag n Drop them down to the storyboard.

- Now you are ready to create your DVD disc. Click on the "Make Movie" tab. You see a panel now. On the low left click Disc. If you want to see an overview of the settings for the DVD that will be created, click on "Settings" on the upper right side.

- Thats it. CLick on "Create Disc" tab , and wait... ;-)
