DVD Ripping for Dumbies Please Help Me

I have ripped a dvd to my hard drive using a program called DVD Decrypter it has saved all files as .Vob files is there any simple way to compress this movie down as it is 3.79GB I have read a lot of web sites and forums about ripping down to vcd and puting on disks and using programs such as virtual dub and a program called mpeg2avi which runs through msdos but for some reasom on my pc which is running xp i cant get it to run so if you can help that would be very apprieciated thanks in advance

Have you got your answer yet, perhaps I can help you. I personally use Smartripper, and DVD2VI, TMPGenc, Nero or Easy CD Creator....or instead of this to create an MPEG2 file, I have found a new all-in-one copy to DIVX. It works great, and now, I don't spend hours reading fora like this one to find out how to overcome my errors or program bugs. I then burn a CD to watch on my computer - 20" screen.

Anyone else want to know about this method???

I have tried about all the programs out there and found this combo to be the easiest and best. dvd decryptor, dvd2avi, tmpgenc, and nero. Make sure you get tmpgenc 2.57 or greater because it comes with a wizard that really helps newbies. Now this combo does not make divx movies. It does make movies that can be played on a dvd player or your computer.
