When analysing a DVD with DVD Shrink, I have been experiencing the following problem: During the course of the analysis the image in "image preview" pane freezes. Then, a box pops up indicating that DVD Shrink cannot continue due to a "cyclic redundency check." I've been using DVD Shrink for about 1 year now and never had this problem. Now, its done it on the past 5 discs and won't let me make a back-up. I usually decrypt it first in DVD Decrypter and then run the analysis in DVD Shrink and even tried to skip DVD Decrypter and use Shrink to decrypt but it doesn't matter, same error message. I've even un-installed and re-installed DVD Shrink.

My set-up:
Dell Dimension Desktop w/2gig P4
384 DDR Ram
120G HD
LG 4040 Burner

Software:
DVD Shrink v.3.1.7
DVD Decrypter v.3.2.3.0
DVD43 v.1.4

Any ideas?

Hi,

So in essence you're saying that no matter what software or which discs you try you still get CRC errors, correct?

If this is the case, it's possible that the lens in your drive may be dirty and need a cleaning. Lens cleaners can be found at any electronics store and look like a regular disc but it has a little wee brush on the bottom that cleans the lens as it spins.

Well, it's done it on the past 5 discs, but when I put in discs I've already backed-up, it works fine. It seems like then, certain discs trigger the error. One in-particular that is giving me trouble is X-Men 1.5. The bottom of the disc is clean minus a few minor scratches and scuffs and my burner is less than 1 year old.

i have had it also. most of the time a good cleaning of the disk cures it. but i tried to do daddy day care to no avail on shrink,decrytp. and even SmartRipper nothing would open it but it would play. it had 2 very little scratches im guessing in the perfect spot to stop you. others have been 10x's more scratched and no problem.

That pretty much describes my problem actech. It's wierd then how a disc with deep gouges can play fine but then you get a disc that has a barely visible scratch and it chokes. I can't wait until we ditch DVD media and go to something like DVD flashdrives for storage.
