What brand of media are you using? Are they -R's?

I have exactly the same problem as lindstrom. I've tried a variety of media (the one in the drive right now is a Memorex DVD-R single sided ver. 2.0). The drive works fine with everything EXCEPT when a blank DVD is inserted to burn. It refuses to "see" the disk and asks that a disk be inserted in the drive.

@ GM3458,

I'll assume since you posted here, that you've also got a TDK 420N. The reason why I asked "Are they -R's" is because, that is the wrong format ... the TDK 420N is a +R(RW) burner. You need to get +R(RW) media.

Yes, mine is also a TDK 420N drive/burner. I just tried a blank Memorex DVD+RW single sided 4.7 GB disk as you instructed, but the drive still doesn't "see" it. All other functions work correctly. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it several times to no avail. I went as far as deleting all references to the drive in the registry after uninstalling, thinking there may be some conflict there, but still no luck on re-installation. When using System Info (my OS is XP Pro) there are no conflicts with the burner and its properties in Device Manager indicate it is working properly.

I am running a Compaq 8SPXE2 with a 1.8 GHz Pentium 4 and 1MB physical memory with the TDK burner plus an HP CD Writer 9100b. In addition I have two Maxtor 6Y120P0 hard drives.

Do you have any other suggestions?

GM3458,

Is your cd burner on the same ide cable as your dvd burner? If so, try removing it. Also is your TDK's firmware up to date?

Flip,

Thanks so much for your help. I uninstalled the HP drive then reinstalled. Everything is working great now! Thanks again.
