I successfully backed up some movie dvds to a cheapo dvd-r disk (big mistake I now know after finding this forum). Of course they playback on the PC fine but not on my standalone player

Reading the threads there seem to be several reputable suppliers here in the UK and a straight choice between Ritek and Verbatim disks

My burner is an LG which I am told can burn all types of media including dual layer.

For backing up DVDs which media should I really look at, and which UK supplier offers the best all round service

I serously doubt that your burner can burn ALL medias. Sure it may identify the media, but that doesn't mean it will successfully burn with Nero. Look for good medias. Ritek is the solution. go to your burner manufacturer and check if Ritek is recommended.
