HD Loader conflict with Sony HDD Utility disc

I purchased the HD Loader with a 120GB Maxtor HD.The Maxtor HD is installed and when I try to use the Sony HDD Utility disc I receive an error message that says "The HDD unit is not installed.Turn off the console using the main power switch on the console rear.Then install the HDD unit and start over.

What can I do to fix this problem?

since its not a sony ps2 hard drive, the sony utility disc wont work.
