Netflix: We are killing torrent traffic wherever we go

Netflix has said this week that wherever it begins offering its legal streaming content, torrent traffic falls dramatically.
Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos noted, "the best way to combat piracy isn't legislatively or criminally but by giving good options."
The streaming site has 30 million subscribers in the U.S. and is becoming popular in other nations, as well.

I've had their streaming service for about 3 months now. I'm not very impressed with their "library" of content. I've already cancelled now that they're losing even more. It's pretty obvious Ted Sarandos is quite the bullsh*t artist, probably how he got the job.
What qualifications do you need to be chief content officer Ted? I think content officers are mostly honest though, just like us regular folk. Good ol' teddy, never one to condescend.

BitTorrent traffic grew by 40% in the US from 2011 to 2012 (Sandvine).

doesn't surprise me at all.
look at the music streaming services CD, single/album mp3 tracks have probably dropped as well.
I notice on the torrent sites you don't get much music either.
one day soon MP3 tracks will probably go the same way as CDs as people just stream what ever they want and just pay the one off monthly price to do so.

i agree 100% with this statement...
and i am personally more than happy with what i get from Netflix for the price i pay.

I'm thinking that this is a stunt to motivate more content holders to allow Netflix to stream their content (especially since their losing content fast & furious).

i don't understand all the negativity...
Netflix would give us every movie and tv show ever made if the content owners would just get on board with the new way of things.
As it is, it's still the best option of its type and i don't feel like 8 bucks is really asking all that much for what all you can watch.
Does it completely eliminate the need or my want for alternative avenues of obtaining things? ... no
But that is only because most things, especially newer TV shows and foreign TV shows are not available. If everything i wanted to watch was available, then i would never use torrents...
and THAT is ultimately the point. Give people legal and reasonably priced options and they will take them.

I have both Netflix and Hulu+ and have not regretted dumping satellite ever since. I was resistant to get rid of satellite after 10+ years but wow not missing it at all.
I get free over the air local HD channels and save a ton of money every month and still get great choices for shows and movies. Now if hulu+ would dump the commercials for us paid customers I would be even happier but the occasional 30 second spot is way more tolerable than the 2 min plus on normal tv for commercials.
