Dell's Android thumb PC to ship in July

Dell's "Project Ophelia," which is an Android-based thumb PC, will begin shipping in July.
The device will sell for around $100, says the company.
Plugging into a display's HDMI port, the PC can run applications and access files that have been stored remotely. Additionally, it will have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support.

I am curious about the specs...There are already dozens of android thumb/pocket PCs that are as low as $50...

And the big deal about this is what... that it's rebadged by Dell?
I'll bet it's only a dual core... there are quads with 2 GB ram available on eBay for the same price (delivered).
Its a lot easier being righteous than right.

Wow dell re-badges yet another product will they ever learn? Music players, televisions, poor quality inkjet printers is there nothing that dell won't put their name on that is unrelated to their CORE business of selling computers. And this product is at least 6 months behind competitors yet again.

That's all true but I know of a couple of examples where Dell has been ok... I've not known any problems with their laptops particularly and a friend scored the exact same hi-res monitor sold by Apple from Dell (rebadged) for half the price. Everything else you can keep.

I also think that the glasses in the picture are for size comparison.
And I agree with all of you. This has existed since years ago. Dell people, as they always do, just order it from China with their logo on it. Great innovation, indeed.
Besides that, if I didn't miss anything lately about the current HDMI standard specs, once again they forget to tell us that HDMI is not a powered port, so the device has to be powered in some other way (for instance, USB), so it's never as simple as plugging it in an HDMI port and it just works.

Some or even most HDMI ports ARE powered with +5v DC dali but there is usually an OTG USB port on the device for power if it isn't (separate from the master USB and SD Card slot). Most but not all of these Stick PCs ship with one of those external USB power adapters which are pretty common nowadays.

Thanks for the clarification. Didn't know that. Well, it seems I really have been missing something lately. I guess mine aren't, anyway, neither there is any USB port around (time runs fast, and my current 42" TV set is about 6 years old, if not older).

That's ok, just make sure you get one with a separate "USB power adaptor" you can plug into a wall socket. Lots of things are USB port powered now and cheap USB power adapters have become common now costing about $7.
