Has anybody got any ideas on what it would take to get a legacy NTSC TV set retrofitted to become an HDTV set?

Maybe the tube needs to come out because it will not support progressive non interlaced scanning?

Maybe a LCD pannel could be slapped in its place?

Maybe a used PC based HDTV tuner card solution retrofitted into the carcus would do the trick?

Maybe a Samsung SIR-T150 slid into the back side?

Why you ask?
1. Modularity, and
2. a whole lot of needless TV's potentially sitting in our landfills.
3. Another reason whould be a way to spur US commerce and not import another 2.5 TV'S per 150 million households from overseas when retrofitting maybe the answer. Market of this alone at $500 per unit is 187,500,000,000 - thats 188 billion dollars!
