Ok, I have tried Bittorrent, ABC and now Azereus as my clients with the same pitiful speeds. Someone please tell me what I can do in English....:) I've got a cable connection. I am using a D-Link 604 router and as for my PC, it's a P4 2.4 with 512Mb of PC 3200 400 Mhz ram. If you need any other information feel free to ask. Thank U very much in advance.

Also worth trying this ->
Step 1
Open your web browser and enter the IP address of your router (192.168.0.1). Enter username (admin) and your password (leave blank).
Step 2
Click on Advanced and then click Virtual Server.
Step 3
Create a new entry:
Click Enabled.
Enter a name (bittorrent1).
Private IP - Enter the IP address of the computer you are running BitTorrents on.
Select TCP for Protocol Type
Enter 6881 for both Private Port and Public Port
Click Always or set a schedule.
Step 4
Click Apply and then Continue.
Step 5
Keep repeating steps 3 and 4 until you have an entry for 6881, 6882,6883,6884,6885,6886,6887,6888,6889.
No try your Bittorrents and see if it makes any difference - if your also running any software firewalls you may have to do the above steps on thses as well.

I have installed Bit Torrent about a week ago. I have internet connection through Direcway Satellite. I have disabled my xp firewall and gained no speeds. So, I then configured the ports entering 6881-6999!! Still, I am getting the yellow light with 0-2 kb/s. I tried entering my gateway ip but says FAILURE TO CONNECT TO WEB SERVER. I have read almost everything trying to figure this thing out. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP.

I am using Norton Internet Security 2004 and also have Norton AntiVirus enabled. I haven't noticed any immediate changes when I disable or enable either, but when I checked it after some time the speed seems to drop down alot. I tried to find the port numbers or any helpful info through the program itself but couldn't. Which torrent program do you think I am best of using of the 3 that I said I have. Actuslly no matter what I do all the downloads start up with Azeurus anyway.

I use ABC, but everyone has their preference. You may have the same peoblem as me, my isp is trying to stop people using p2p file sharing by automatically putting my ports in stealth mode, there is nothing I can do about this other than pay them more money to upgrade my account. You may find it worth calling your isp to find out if they are blocking any ports.

Bit Tornado is the best client to use.
Make sure to set you upload speed do something lower than you Max - I have a 128Kbit upload - so that's 16K. Anything over 10K on upload and it kills the download.
WindowsXP gave me nothing but issues - even with Zone Alarm AND XP's Firewall disabled it always ran slow and the status light was always Yellow.
Had XP and 2000 as Dual boot - copied the torrent file into Windows2000 and tried it in that O/S the exact same Torrent, with Zone Alarm runing went to Green and 60/70Kb/s.
So I dumped XP for 2000Pro.
I don't know if XP has issues with BT - or maybe issues after the security updates are put on. I gave up on it.
I don't know what I am doing.

i have recently downloaded abc and my downloads were very slow to i also have norton 2004 and i just ordered norton to allow all access to abc. That didn't work de colors still remaind lime green(yellow)
so i found a site were they have a guide to numbers of different routers(almost every router you can think of)and i found my router there to.i followed the guide, opened my ports 6881-6999 and now my downloads are shooting true the roof.
I have a lan 2048-down and 1024-up and my downloads are now between 100KB and 200Kb every single one.I couldn't believe it.With in 3 hours i download a 1400MB movie i've downloaded 12 films in one day
And it even worked for kazaa lite too
but i would advice that you use peer guardian or something because my ports are wide open and by running peer i already had 10 blockings

Speed depends on how many ppl are seeding the files if lot of ppl are seeding the speed will be 50kb+.If their is one seeder and 30 peers speed will be very slow under 10kb.

Alright, what is this web site that has all the info on routers? Because I can't seem to figure out what numbers to use for opening the ports on this or that program.
Also, does anyone think that I will see an increase or decrease in speeds or performance when I switch to XP from ME, my current OS?

This has a few bits and bobs on Firewalls and Routers.
You need to open Ports 6881-6889 inclusive.
XP/ME shouldn't make any difference to the speed of the Internet - it's prob worth dumping ME for XP regardless.
Although I couldn't get XP and BT to like each other - Windows2000 seems to run it better - but I have no idea why.
I don't know what I am doing.

Are you using Zone Alarm. If so have you opened the Ports to allow BT to accept incomings?
If not, do this.
Open Zone Alarm and click on the Firewall Tab on the left. Then click on the "Main" Tab at the top. On Internet Zone Security click on Custom. If you scroll down a couple of lines you will see an option that says "Allow incoming TCP connections" tick the box another box should appear at the bottom that says PORTS - type 6881-6889 into that and apply it.
That should speed it up.
Would also get a client called Bit Tornado - there are several clients but this is as easy to use as any of them. Make sure you set the upload of your Torrent to several Kb/s below your Max.
See if that helps.
Also if you are in XP and use Zone Alarm disable the XP firewall as that can stop it working.
If you have the XP firewall you have to do the same thing except you have to open each port individually.
I don't know what I am doing.
