Help! I have tried for a week to make a playable NSCT dvd from an mpg file. But Alas! I have failed, so.... I think my mpg file is PAL, so I need to convert my PAL mpg to a NSCT mpg. I can do the authoring and de-multiplexing. Does anyone know of a tool for converting from PAL to NSCT that is share ware? Cucusoft has a nice one but before I spend 25.00, just thought I would ask. Thank in advance!

As long as the MPEG is from a film source (ie it's progressive) I'd do it something like this:

1. Use DVD2AVI to create a D2V file and Demux the audio.

2. Use AviSynth (free) with this script to convert:
Mpeg2Source("C:\wherever\whatever.mpg")
AssumeFPS(23.976)

3. Use TMPGEnc (free trial) to encode to encode to a DVD compliant video file

4. Use Goldwave (free trial) to stretch the audio to fit the new movie length

5. Use DVD-Lab (free trial), DVD Author (free trial), or Rejig (free) to author the DVD.

In reality I'd use CCE Basic to encode because that's all I use right now, but the trial version won't encode more than 3 minutes so it's not much good for your purposes. If you want more information on using AviSynth check out my AVSEdit guide on the Guides page. You don't need to read any further than the section on loading files.

Oops. I forgot a step. After the video is encoded I'd use a program called Pulldown to add pulldown flags to it. That makes a 23.976fps file read at 29.97fps by duplicating fields. If you use DVD-Lab to author you can let it add pulldown flags for you instead of doing it before hand. It will prompt you when you import the video.
