Sony unveils innovative set-top console, PS Vita TV

article published on 10 September, 2013

Along with their other announcements yesterday, Sony also unveiled a new micro-console, the PS Vita TV. The tiny console, at 6.5cm x 10.5cm x 1.3cm, will compete with Android-based gaming set-tops like the Ouya. Allowing you to play Vita games on your TV, the hardware has a slot that lets you load games from the handheld and then play it with a standard DualShock 3 or 4 PlayStation controller. ... [ read the full article ]

Sounds interesting to me. I can pick up one of these while I wait for Vita prices to fall in the $100 range on the used market, and start picking up some of the decent titles before they become extinct and "rare".

I agree. Sony may actually have pulled their schlongs a little further out of the fire on this one.

IMO, I think this is a smart move on Sony's part. It's a good way to introduce people to the Vita ecosystem that can't afford or have justified reasons to not buying the actual PS Vita handheld. I for one will be buying this console (if the name calling is justified).

No graphics filtering, dose not support UMD, Dose not support all Vita games...holy fuck leave this to the professionals the emulator makers...

Copyright infringement is nothing more than civil disobedience to a bad set of laws. Lets renegotiate them.

WIll support PSP games via download through the Store, Can't use certain features of the vtia(touch screen, ect).

There's really no hard info on filtering yet but knowing them they will not even bother....

They should have made a controller that is a combination of the PS3 and the Vita, or maybe that's what the PS4 pad is I dunno.

I own two Vitas and quite a few of the more popular games. Only about 3 of them make use of or require the touchscreen(s) in-game. My kids are always commenting how they never have to use the rear touchscreen at all.

The reason why this won't compete well with Android is $. The Vita downloads are expensive compared to the Android Play store, and most people have already bought the game for their phone or tablet so DLing it to their Android game console is free. Plus, there are plenty of Android phones with HDMI out and bluetooth for using a PS or Wii controller. I used to do that with my "ancient" HTC EVO 4G.

Anyone tried the DraStic DS emulator yet? Soon there really well be no purpose for handheld consoles.
