I think this is a bad message from investors. Ballmer I would completely agree needed to go, Gates would be a net loss if asked to step away completely. Besides last i knew while I was still working at M$, he held the position more in name only and had little if or no say in the operations of the business for M$.

Ballmer needs to go as soon as possible. He's too "sales" focused. Bill Gates was always the catalyst of the great technology ideas. I greatly admire all of the philanthropic work that Bill and his foundation are doing to help change the world. If Bill wants to help Microsoft, he should be more involved - not less.
