This may hold true for systems that are online, although if you're still using XP to browse the web you likely have much worse problems than losing the updates. As for my experience most XP systems nowadays are business use and stay offline (most haven't been updated in years) anyways. Businesses still use XP for tons of backend work and they won't be upgrading no matter how many of these reports M$ releases.

At this point it's nothing but a scare tactic to get these systems upgraded for no reason other than to pay M$ for the wondrous new 8.... all snarkyness aside these systems run software that hasn't been compatible with windows since perhaps vista and even then they caused innumerable bugs and glitches. For any of my clients in this situation, I recommend using Linux and replacing the software entirely, since in the end if they upgrade to 7 or especially 8 they would have to look for new software anyways.
