Apparently "ultimate realism" means 720p or stuttering at 1080p these days -.-' .

Anyone who has ever gamed on a PC knows exactly how silly this claim is.

Naw.

By the "ultimate realism that rivals Hollywood" claim, they're referring to all the ads, product placements, and rising prices.

Dead Rising 3 can not even cope at 720p at 30fps drops to 10 at some points on the Eurogamer article terrible for a first party game.

DR3 is first party?

I thought it was a Capcom game?

Whether it's 1st- or 3rd-party, it's a very telling point, that the XBone (and, I'll bet, the PS4) has these issues with games that even a mediocre PC can run reasonably well at 1080p. But their specs really are no better than a 3rd-rate PC, in the 1st place.

At least in the past, console hardware was optimized heavily for gaming, so even at lower actual specs, game performance (at least for raw speed) often matched, or even exceeded PCs with otherwise similar hardware. But now that both of the big, new game boxes are merely PCs in a frumpy dress, well, that's not the case any more. Their substandard hardware (especially the RAM on the XBone) is a big ball and chain now.

XB1 Exclusive made by capcom so not technically a first party game but never coming to PS4 according to MS/Capcom.

Ah, ok. So it's not a first party, it's just an exclusive.

Shame to hear it's reportedly poorly optimized. I thought the trailers made it look promising.

THE XBOX SUCKS.. WE ALL KNOW THAT..
FROM WHAT I SEE, THE PS4 PERFORMS BETTER THAN THE XBOX ONE IN THE 1080P DEPT.
EVERYONE I KNOW IS GETTING THE PS4.

It's not surprising, considering the much faster RAM in the PS4. That's going to be a big deal when handling 1080p, as well as textures.

But honestly, the systems are very, very similar. For once, it's possible to get a real "apples to oranges" comparison, and there's just not much to distinguish them from each other, besides relatively minor details and their respective libraries of exclusive games.

I think the real problem is that both companies have forgotten what made consoles so powerful for gaming in the past, namely, they were made exclusively for gaming. I think they've simply completely lost focus, and are turning both consoles into "PC lite" systems. Of course, you then lose a lot of the optimizations possible with a games-only approach.

Don't need to think it's the problem Bozobob you hit the nail square on the proverbial head imo,i don't spend x amount of money on a dam console to play stink'n movies or other gimmik garbage that's what the pc is for & it plays everything in every format, lets face it consoles are piss weak where games are concerned & the last thing they need is more garbage running in the background when gaming

It isn't that they "forgot" what made consoles in the first place, it is that they effectively redefined it. They go to game houses and say, "We will give you X million to make this game an exclusive for our console" then "You know, if you put it on PC it will probably get pirated; that won't happen for a while on our console"...sometimes they even buy the gamehouse outright to ensure all the titles will be exclusives. Many games become exclusives for one console, many more are never released for PC...and so it doesn't really matter that an average PC can blow either console out of the water while still being a fully fledged everything machine because even if you have a top-end PC, you still need a console to play most of the big title games. Even with two players in the next-gen war, it is effectively a monopoly; and monopolies don't have to worry about quality or price. The really annoying part is that Microsoft is playing this game, making exclusives for the Xbox while ignoring their other, better, platform because some old bald guy thinks of PC as "Something you bend over to do work".

All that said, they are alienating users to a massive extent and they are going to start losing people if gameplay stops being fun. Why spend $60 on a game that stutters so much that you can't get into it? If all the games are like that (or even if the concern is there), why buy the console? And if no one is buying a console, the studios won't make games for it, making the problem worse exponentially. At this rate, Microsoft will be the winner...not with the Xbox, but with Windows...in spite of themselves.

Hollywood sucks anyway, so I guess they nailed the emulation perfectly.
