Coverting VOB files to AVi for Editing

I have some home videos (DVDs) that I want to edit. They are not encrypted. I have the vob files saved to my hard drive. Not I am using Adobe Premiere to edit the movie. So, I need a way to convert the vob files to some editable format like ".mpg or .avi". What would be the best way to attack this without losing quality? Is there some simple software I can use to do the conversion?

use winavi. There is an option to encode from VOB to avi
