Seiki offering a 55-inch 4K TV for $1500

Seiki has unveiled the cheapest large 4K display to date, available exclusively at Sears.
The 55-inch display with 4K resolution will cost just $1499, and be available at over 500 US Sears retail stores.
In addition, the company is offering a 39-inch model for $699. Each TV has 'UltraHD' resolution of 3840 x 2160, use a 120 Hz refresh rate for 1080p and a 30Hz rate for 4K content.

I'm not quite sure about this but some serious shortcuts must have been taken to achieve a price of 1500 bucks.

The 39" 4K, for $699 to give as a Christmas gift to a non-techie grand-mum, etc. is no bad at all.

Indeed, 1) There's something besides a generous company keeping this under $2K, 2) Seiko, don't they make watches? Oh wait, it's Seiki with an "i", well that's different, they're well-known for making???? Nothing. 3) Call me label conscious, but it's not like buying Calvin Kleins over Levi's, they both cover your legs, investing $1500 in a company with no rep here is a pretty big leap of faith. Will they be around to back up their products in 5 years? Are they any good to begin with? Just because it sports a 3,000+ is no guarantee of quality. You can stick a Ferrari engine in a Volkswagon Beetle, doesn't make it a Ferrari. I'd pass until at least one person you know buys one and has good things to say. I haven't owned a TV not named Samsung in a decade, they earned my loyalty with consistently great flat panels. I bought 2 this year, the 60" HD 3D Smart and the 40" HD 3D Smart and I'm thrilled with them, as I knew I would be, Seiki?

Well. With all this high tech Corporations & Companies moving to China for their cheep labor. China has nothing else to say that:
"Thank you for give us all those years of research and screed secrets, etc. to us for FREE!"
In other words:
They are making new brands with better value.
Back on topic:
The only obstacle on this panel, is the 4K at 30Hz. refresh cycle (30fps.); no bad if you watching DVDs, regular TV or even use as PC monitor.
Now if you are playing video games, high-end production video editing or high-end photography; is a diff, "Ball-Game" since they look & perform better at 60Hz refresh cycle or 60fps.
But hey: The 4K ($5K) Sony TV's have the same restrictions.

according to some of the info on a google search seiki is actually owned by samsung and uses samsung parts.
custom built gaming pc from early 2010,ps2 with 15 games all original,ps3 500gbs with 5 games all original,yamaha amp and 5.1channel surround sound speakers,46inch sony lcd smart tv.
