Sony has revealed that as of December 28, 2013, it had sold 4.2 million PlayStation 4 (PS4) consoles.
That represents a very encouraging early result for Sony, which has a long-stated goal of selling five million PS4s by the end of its current financial year, ending March.

it would depend how many were made for sale.if 4.2 million units were being sold and got sold then everywhere would be sold out.
Also they might of sold 2.1 at release date world wide and sold 2.1 million pre-ordered.

True, sold out in Australia till mid-February, only taking pre-orders.
Imagine how many would be walking out of the shop or buying a Xbone since they can't get a PS4 immediately?
