Following streaming deals with all the major content providers over the past few years, Sony will now be bringing hit shows like "Game of Thrones" and "True Blood" to their PS3 and PS4 consoles via the HBO Go app.
The older PlayStation 3 will be the first to get the app, followed by the PS4 later in the year.

This seems kind of pointless considering the HBO Go app requires a subscription service from HBO through cable/satellite. Should I already have it via cable/satellite then why would I even need this to run through my PS3? I guess there are households that have multiple rooms/tv's not all of them have boxes, but still. Seems to me like double-dipping.

The really cool thing about HBOGo is that you have access to every episode of every season of nearly every show that HBO has ever aired. Shows like Oz, the Sopranos, The Wire, Entourage, Six Feet Under - some of which haven't aired in years, all available in a convenient streaming service. Typically On Demand only has shows that are currently airing or the season that has just aired, so it is not nearly as comprehensive as what Go offers. And On Demand removes them after a very short period. HBO shows are about as exclusive as it gets - you won't find them on Netflix or any other streaming service. Go allows you to peruse their entire library - something that merely subscribing to it via cable doesn't allow.

Thanks for the info: my only concern is for me to get HBO I have to pay for extra channels through my provider to get it, that I don't want or need. And that's just to get be able to use the service HBO Go which is not known if they will be charging for the PS version. I guess we'll see when it launches, but it does have me curious.
