Maybe he is feeling a little guilty for ripping off game concepts and art styles from others.

Or maybe it's a marketing campaign and he'll put it back up after a while. The main response to this news seems to have been "what is flappy bird? Never heard of it".

I admit, I had never heard of it until I saw on Afterdawn that it was being shut down.
