Xbox line tops U.S. games sales for January

article published on 15 February, 2014

The NPD Group has released their latest figures today for game sales, and Microsoft has skewed the data to reveal that the Xbox 360 and Xbox One as a team have topped the list of sales for the month. Microsoft says that combined, Xbox consoles sold 2.27 million units, good for 47 percent software market share. "we've seen over 740 million hours of fun on Xbox One across games, apps, and TV" and "people are seeing the benefit of Kinect, with over 685 million speech commands used to navigate Xbox One, including 20 million commands of "Xbox, Record That" alone."

They forgot the most important and critical piece of nonsense lame info..........How many footsteps were taken for everyone to go out and get one of these. 140 Trillion, Billion......

How about info about how many times the X button was pressed on both systems in the past year.

Point being.......who cares about that useless info about Xbox users and the frequency to which they use voice commands.

I can't be the only one who's comprehending this as an "admission", am I?

MS states they won't use Kinect to mine data yet they clearly are. Sure, these numbers are seemly innocent, but what other numbers do they have which they don't want their consumers to know about?

What bothers me most about this is that M$ is keeping very close track of issued voice commands. Lovely. They should have named it the "ISpyOne", FFS.

I wonder how many times the spy machine picked up someone's voice saying " I hate @&$)&&@ Microsoft and windows 8"?

Agreed! Besides, even my old Core2Quad (with a 560 Ti) simply smokes the XBone specs ^^' . Sad but true; both the XBone and PS4 are basically low-to-midrange gaming PCs, with locked OSes.

There is probably a spec somewhere for how many people have been automatically recorded naked when getting achievements.

Also, interesting math here...

2.27 million units sold
740 million hours of "fun"
Average of 2.7 games per console.

740 / 2.27 = 326
326 / 2.7 = 120

Given the games on the console it seems highly unlikely that the average person plays the average game for an average of 120 hours. That means that their idea of "Xbox One Fun" includes a lot of watching the same nexflix, listening to the same music, and browsing the same sites that they could use on any console or pc or phone or tablet. WOW...what fun...it does the same thing my 6-year-old PS3 does, except with fewer games...WOW!
