Those screen shots suck. Maybe my eyes are getting older but I just don't see much of a difference. Yes the FPS is higher so it should run smoother but the game looks almost the same.
I have been waiting to buy a console, yet from what I've seen so far I might just get a last gen console with 1000s of games available and just skip the next gen altogether. Still haven't seen that killer game that makes it clear to me.

If you select an image then use the tabs to jump back and forth the differences should be pretty clear. Check out the yellow/orange sign on the wire fence, it's not legible on the PS3 but is legible on the PS4. Also, the fencing itself is a torture test trying to up-convert diagonal edges, the native 1080P really kicked ass there. The XBOX One showed a similar advantage over the 360, but at only 720P, it still won't match the PS4 on this title at least. It would have been nice to get a shot of the same scene between the XBONE and PS4 but for some unknown reason (lol) I don't think the game developer is going to open up that discussion on their website.

For anyone who really wants to see how they compare and not go off some random misinformed opinions that are out there just download THIS (don't stream, D/L to view) and verify the differences for yourself as 720p vs 1080p is something like 2.25 times the amount of pixel resolution and is HUGELY noticeable.

Maybe not vast.... but there's a major difference imo.
However, anti-aliasing IS vastly more effective at higher resolutions mate.
What's more, the Xbone may be almost identical to the X360 version apart from framerate...
Its a lot easier being righteous than right.

@ Jemborg.
It's an evolving situation.
The initial scaler on the XB1 wasn't so good on some games, the new updated one is much better on most.
They're not 'fixed' at a single point as things stand & the original minor differences are (in my view) hardly worth making the usual exaggerated claims over.
Like I said, one will be a little better at something & the other a little better at something else.
There's very little in it.
It is funny tho, apparently when it comes to XB1 & PS4 the differences are enormous (to some) but when the PC boys start talking the (far greater) differences between PS4 & a decent recent PC suddenly become negligible.
Says it all really.

It's an evolving situation I agree. For both consoles. I'm hoping it will lead to advances in multi-core game programming. But it's obvious that you and I have very different ideas what a next gen console should be. I note at this time none of the PS4 games are in 720p. This is the step up I myself personally would have expected. No doubt over time things will get better on the X1... but whereas the X1 has come out of the gates trotting the cheaper PS4 has come out running... and that gap is gonna get wider not smaller. Now this isn't important to you but it is to me!
Now I acknowledge as far as games go Xbox has what appears to be some good exclusives (if they are on PC too they don't count imo). And if you actually really like the Kinnect or most importantly you are into online gaming and all your mates play Live then get X1. But don't piss on my face and call it rain.
Now I'm not bringing PCs into it but I'm perfectly aware of what one is capable of having built powerhouse gaming rigs that cost over eight times an X1 and recently a very decent budget gamer for a client. It could run Black Flag at 1080p/60fps and frankly I got it looking uncompromisingly beautiful... it still cost twice a PS4. Would I recommend a PC over a PS4? Abso-bloody-lutely... but you still gotta pay for it!

Over the past 10+ years here I have to admit Afterdawn still never ceases to amaze me. I honestly couldn't have said it any better myself Jem (and that's saying a lot knowing our history). Great comment/post/info.
