This morning, Apple announced the launch of CarPlay, bringing the iOS experience to automobiles starting in 2014.
iPhone 5, 5C and 5S users can use CarPlay to control phone calls, use Maps, play their music, and have messages dictated to them. When released, cars will have a native CarPlay interface or you can choose to activate Siri from a new voice control button on the steering wheel.

There's Android versions on the way, as well, so the actuasl discussion should be: Is this a good idea? And I think it might be.
I personally prefer Android over iOS, but regardless, an OS that unifies car controls across many models and manufacturers is a good idea, ASSUMING you provide better security than most extant iOS or Android devices. Someone hacking your phone/tablet can be a serious pain in the ass, but someone hacking your CAR can be deadly!
That said, simplifying and unifying a car's various controls and adding the possibility of customizing them, including installing additional apps, is a potentially compelling idea.
