Nero Error When Burning VCD (and AVI conversion ? also)

I was burning a personal movie (it required two discs due to the fact that it was a total of around 1000 mb, although the file before nero was 650 mb, if thats any help) and i got an error message with 3 minutes left. It said something to the effect of the burning process or file is too complicated, burning error blah blah.

It was a .mpg file but the title had SVCD and KVCD in the title, so i figured it would work.

Also, i have a lot of avi files id like to convert but my 1st conversion using the site guide "Divx with Subtiles to VCD" failed miserably in the fact that:
(1)No sound was available to the mpeg
(2)The file was around 8 gigs when the original was about 650 mb
(3)About 4 hrs of blank footage was added (hence resulting in #2)
I followed the guide exactly and skipped the subtitles part (for obvious reasons). I think that something happened in the frameserver part of VirtualDub but I am not sure.

Is there anybody out there willing to talk to me via AIM for help to see what i am doing wrong with Nero or Virtual Dub?
