I was ripping DVDs using Shrink and burning using Decrypter. This was taking me about 1 1/2 hours per movie. My friend told me to rip with Decrypter, backup with Shrink and launch Nero to cut the time down. I tried that and not luck. We walked through Decrypter together to make sure all the settings were the same but my read speed continues to be around 1.3x and his is 4.3x. Does anyone know why this is?

I am using a Sony DRU-700A drive

Check in your Device Manager to ensure DMA is enabled.

If you are using PIO Mode this will increase your encoding/burning times considerably.

Try the search button re DMA/PIO modes.

I looked in my hard drive for DMA or PIO and did not find anything that would allow me to check "enable."

What are you referencing when you say "using PIO Mode this will increase your encoding/burning times considerably." I am not sure. When I open DVD Decrypter the Mode I choose is "File F."

Hi,

PIO is a very slow transfer mode for any drive whereas DMA is quite a bit quicker and will decrease your rip times if your reader is indeed stuck in PIO mode.

Here's a helpful link:
