article published on 30 April, 2014

Katzenberg says in the future, you will be able to pay for movies according to the size of the screen you want to watch them on. this will fail. why would you purchase based on the current screen size? once again how can we gouge the viewer? whats next the price based on how many times you blink during a movie because every blink will be called a viewing of the film.

Heres an idea to all the movie makers

make the movie decide how much money you want to make and sell the movies to make that money and give it away free once you have reach the monetary value you wanted.
instead of movie makers squeezing every dollar and cent out of customers for years.

That's the primary reason why I haven't been to theaters in the past twenty years... high prices!
The movie industry SUCKS, all the crap in Hollywood these days doesn't even deserve to be pirated. If I were a pirate I wouldn't waste my precious time and resources on crap from Hollywood!
I buy a DVD (new or used) and I end up watching it once, maybe twice, and then it's collecting dust or sold in a yardsale.
All the mainstream idiot-numbing sheep-dumbing movies in Hollywood aren't worth pirating.

Katzenberg says...

Extended movie theater runs will no longer be necessary if the new model is adapted. ...

A movie will come out and you will have 17 days, that's exactly three weekends, which is 95% of the revenue for 98% of movies," he explains.
So what he is describing is the death of movie theaters?

I know I read in the past that during the first month or so of a movie premiere, an exorbitant amount of the ticket sales go right to Hollywood. Then after that time period the theater starts getting back more of that ticket price for themselves.

That's why food costs were so high at theaters; because they needed some source of profit to make up for that time period during which Hollywood rapes them.

Maybe they'd be selling it by resolution.

So you could very well watch a smart phone movie on a large hdtv but it'd be pretty pixelated.

How much is Hollywood paying him to dream up this
ridiculous idea, anyway?
Smells to me like Hollywood is the Ventriloquist

i was told by a copyright copper that movie theaters pay millions for the movie.they make some money back on it.

selling by resolution could work but they do that anyway by re-releasing movies on blu ray and selling it to people again.

"selling to people again", lol.... then I watch it once or twice, and flip it at a pawnshop or a yard sale for quick cigarette money.
I don't think most people keep movies on a disc or some other media format forever or for a very long time, unless it's a movie that is a cult classic or of nostalgic sentimental value.
One would have to be a serious collector of something iconic from a movie's franchise, that he and/or she would Want to pay for the movie over and over again.

I only have one movie that I own, period. And it's my favorite movie, on its original VHS with its box... and I also have it on a bootleg vhs-to-DVD with its own cover and case... and now I am about to order it on an official DVD disc, AND blu-ray disc... all of these will be displayed with my Godzilla vinyl figures... that movie is "Godzilla vs Megalon". My next favorite movie that I'd like to keep is the Shaw Brother's classic "The Super Inframan" which has been digitally re-mastered by Celestial Pictures... I'm trying to gather it in all of its former original formats as well as a digital re-mastered version on DVD and blu-ray.
I do not mind paying for those two favorite movies again and again, in different media formats...
...but I'm NOT gonna pay for them the way Baldilocks Katzenbooger is dreaming of.
