Samsung replaces mobile design boss amid Galaxy S5 criticism

article published on 8 May, 2014

Samsung has confirmed that Chang Dong-hoon has been replaced as the head of its mobile design team. Chang had reportedly offered to resign his position as head of Samsung's mobile design team just last week. The Galaxy S5 smartphone launched recently and was met with criticism of its design and lack of hardware innovations. My S2 is still clinging to life for these reasons:

S5 in the USA only available in black and white (I wanted blue).
S5 had 2 gb of ram, I expected 3 gb as standard for Samsung.
I wanted 32gb of internal storage, they only made available 16gb.
I will not pay $600 plus for 16gb of internal storage, I understand you can expand with micro sd, but that is not the point.
I will keep waiting for another phone before I replace my aging S2. Screw you Samsung, otherwise the S5 was a solid device.

You're not alone; my S2 still does everything I need it to do. The only compelling reason (for me) to upgrade to the S5 is the water resistance factor.-And I really don't care too much for trend of bigger and bigger phones. Yeah the screen size is nice...until you try using it as a running aid via Nike+ or Map My Run. Then all of the sudden that awesome huge phone looks like you have a tablet strapped to your arm. ;)

The water proof case is the only reason I'd change from my S4 to the S5, the 0.1 inches larger, 3 MegaPixels more in the front camera, and a little more CPU power isn't enough for me to change on it's own. However I have friends that were offered a $39 USD upgrade to the S5 with of course a 2 year commitment and that I'd jump on. So if it's going to cost me $600+ then NO but for roughly $40 then I say YES. You can get the unlocked S3 out right for $100 with no contract so if I was in the market for a new good phone that is what I'd go with for cheap. I have friends with the S2 and they still just love it and really it has most everything you need.

I have the S4, and when I saw the specs for the S5, right then and there I deicded against upgrading to the newer device. Not enough of a change to make me go and get something new.

So he symbolically fell on his sword for the company.

He was just doing his job which includes cutting down on production costs.

'Poor quality plastic' ...it utterly baffles me that an aluminium back is considered so prohibitive. Are iPhone backs made with stamped or cast aluminium?
