My main question here is what I can and cant do with the chipless modding? Its cheaper and easier for me any way. I have not bought any thing yet but im thinking about picking up a mega xkey so i can do the chipless mod explained here http://kevinrose.typepad.com/kr/darktips/index.html (scroll down a bit) i saw it on unscrewed and i want to get into modding any way but i dont want to lose xbox live. can this be done without a chip? also how many games will the 8 gig basic hd hold? for a total noob how hard is soldering/modding? also a while back i was trying to connect to the gamespy play halo online thing but couldnt get it to work so im wondering can i hook up my xbox to my pc via an ethernet cable going from xbox to the ethernet port in the back of my hp pavilion 8765c? (dont laugh I know my cpu sucks but im poor) Any way I greatly appreciate any help. Thanks

Chipless (softmods) mods are esentially, and for all practical purposes, exactly the same as a chipped (hardware mod) mod. With the Pheonix Bios Loader (PBL) you can load a 3rd party BIOS exactly the same way that a chipped Xbox would.

Here is an even better soft mod tutorial. http://www.supertrick.net/tutorials.asp It has two soft mod methods. Either the "Swap Trick" which doesn't require any extra hardware but does require cracking open the Xbox. And the 007/Mech save game soft mod. I went with the swap trick method because it didn't require me to fork out any extra cash.

Like I mentioned earlier, soft mod's have all the same downfalls as far as Xbox Live goes as the chipped Xboxs. Read up. If you are going to soft mod, I would recommend that you have 2 harddrives for your soft modded Xbox. One for live, one modded.

also how many games will the 8 gig basic hd hold?
1-3. Most games run in the 2 to 4GB range. I would definately recommend forking out the extra 50 or 60$ and going with and upgraded drive if you plan on copying all of your Xbox games to your hard drive. http://www.supertrick.net has a tutorial on completing the harddrive upgrade with a soft mod too. It is pretty detailed and I completed my with no problems.

Hard. I wouldn't practice on my 150$ toy either.

Yes, but explainging this would be a giant pain in my ass and I'm not even going to attempt it. Read a book on networking.
