Hi
I have successfully ripped and burned some dvds but it doesn't work everytime.
I can create a VideoTS file on the Desktop, and play it with the DVD Player. I can also compress this with dvd2onex, and still have sound, but when burning with Toast 5.2 I get no sound or Not Permitted using the DVD Player.
I thought I'd try today with a movie which is already compressed (by someone else) to 4.3GB. The Video_TS folder plays fine from the Desktop, but it won't burn. There is no Audio TS folder, and Toast gave it Desktop DB and DF files.
I thought Toast might be hindering things, so I tried to use the Disk Utility, but although it says it has copied the Disk Image, my Mac doesn't even know the disc is in there, and my stand alone DVD Player says Cannot Play.
We upgraded a couple of months ago to Panther, and I'm still finding differences, but having read all of this site for a few weeks I can't find an identical problem.
I'm not sure what a Disk Image means (I'm a PC User at work and have to keep getting my head round the different phrases, sorry). The Help Menu talks of backing up data so that did sound helpful.
Any ideas? I'm not too techie, and I'm female, but I do try hard to keep up!!

What kind and brand of DVDs are you using?

To create a Disk Image out of a VIDEO_TS folder that can be burned using Disk Utility you have to use DVD Imager 1.2 ( http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/applescript/dvdimager.html ).
Just drop the VIDEO_TS folder that DVD2OneX had produced onto the DVD Imager window and it will create a disk image. Now open Disk Utility and click on the "Burn" button and select the disk image. The burned DVD should play as a commercial one in your computer and stand alone player. Just make sure you only use DVD-R media and not DVD-RW, DVD+R or DVD+RW.

Hi Londor
Do I have to use DVD2OneX if the original file is 4.2GB (previously compressed by someone else)?
It has saved on the Desktop with the name I gave it, not Video_TS, but opens with DVD player as a Video_TS.
The discs are Memorex DVD-R.
Thanks.

If the VIDEO_TS folder is smaller than 4.3GB you do not need to use DVD2OneX. Just rename it back to VIDEO_TS (use capital letters) and drop it on the DVD Imager window to create a disk image and burn it with Disk Utility.

OK
I dropped the file onto the Disc Imager picture. It doesn't give any progress bar does it, but it created a file in the Video_TS folder with a .dmg extension.
I double clicked this and it moved it to the Disk Utility part - a picture of something with the .dmg extension, and one underneath it with a picture of a hard drive (I think) with the original name of the movie.
The .dmg file says it is Read Only , Locked says Yes and Writable says No. Does this matter?
It has also increased in size from 4.3GB to 4.4GB!! So now it's too big for a dvd and I DO need DVD2OneX!!
Have I messed up so far?

The file with the .dmg extension is the Disk Image. You do not have to open it. Open Disk Utility and press the "burn" icon and select the .dmg file. Then insert a blank DVD and press Burn.
