swapmagic 3.2 unable to boot with hdd installed/activated?

Anybody else have a problem with Swapmagic cd v3.2 not being able to boot if the HDD is activated? The CD will boot fine if I boot the PS2 with only the network adapter and no HD, or HD with no network adapter. I can hear it spin, but the "Playstation 2" logo never pops up.

The HDD is new and only has FFXI/PlayOnline installed on there with latest patches etc.

Any info will be greatly appreciated.
