I was wondering if you have to purchase the FF hard drive then purchase another to upgrade it. I understand the whole thing about swapping the hard drives but Im interested in getting hd loader with 120 gb hard drive, I saw it on a website which you can buy it for 134.99 for the hard drive loader and the hard drive. But if you have to purchase the FF and then upgrade then I will change my mind. So hopefully you guys can help me out. Thanx for your time in advance.

Thanx

not sure what you mean by the FF part. IF you want to play FF, you need to buy and use that hd. Otherwise all you need is hd loader and a hd, the FF pack is not needed.

The Site is
http://www.consolesource.com/ecomm/customer/search.php?substring=hdloader&in_category=1
Check it out
I would buy the software disc from that site and
buy hard drive from
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Category/category_hdd.asp
This way you might save money or if you just want a bigger hard drive. There is some useful information about the hard drive for Playstation 2.

I'm planning on getting a hard drive but I am unsure if i should get one with a 8mb cache or the other one with 2mb cache? should it make any difference when you play games installed onto them with HF loader? does 8mb cache make it go faster?
which one should I get?
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=9756&vpn=6Y120P0&manufacture=Maxtor
or
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=8667&vpn=6Y120L0&manufacture=Maxtor

also what does OEM mean? and lower MS for hard drive is better?

The 8MB cache is much faster thant the 2 as well as 7200RPM over 5400. It does make a difference, however, it's entirely up to you as how with either one it will be much faster than waiting for the optical disc to spin. OEM simply means that it doesn't have the retail packaging. You will be getting simply a bare drive w/out cables, overlay drivers(not required) or screws.

So basically you can chunk any IDE hard drive in a PS2 and use that program ? Just wondering cause if I could use one my old hds that are just sitting around or catch say a 250 gig hd on sale for $100-ish ( Fry's is quite good about that :) ). Just kinda curious, so if anyone knows, at least give me a clue so I'm not running blind when it comes to messing with this.

You can put any ide hard drive in the ps2 yes... and no. Don't buy anything bigger than a 120gig. Bigger will work but the ps2 will only let you use 120 of it. Also on a side note, unless you want to hack your network adaptor I reccomend not getting a western digital.

Ok, well thanks for the info. If I can't use a western dig, then what would be a good drive to use on it ? I'm assuming a maxtor since I hear people chanting it like monks when it comes to ps2 hard drives.

Hi. Me again. Is there anywhere I can get the HDD Utillity Disc mentioned on www.playstation.com for setting up a HD ? Other than buying Final Fantasy XI like they told me to (could care less about the game and their subscription fees or the drive that comes with it). Would the HDLoader software have the utillities I need ?

if you have an original hd loader or hd advance, you can just stick a hd in the ps2 and put games (must also be original games) on it without a mod.
