Verizon has confirmed that it will not be able to stick by its promise of providing citywide fiber Internet to NYC by its stated June 30th deadline. In 2008, as part of an announcement with city officials, Verizon promised to build " a state-of-the-art fiber-optic network throughout the entire City by mid-year 2014." fiber optic doesn't use copper wire so can't blame sandy for that.

Maybe referring to the need for crews to replace the damaged lines resulting in less time/manpower for the fiber updating?

i thought of that too but the fact that the article mentions copper wire not phone lines is why i posted.

FiOS fiber: Use fiber optics in the network backbone and existing copper or infrastructure for residential users.
That explain their low broadband speeds.
