Google unveiled the next iteration of Android today, codename "L," most likely for Lollipop, Licorice, or Lemon Meringue.

More to the point what's with having to root even dual core phones with 1gb+ of RAM to run it?
I really don't get why the newer Android OS's are effectively blocked from earlier phones even though rooting proves they have the hardware to run them.
It's not always a big deal but a lot of us keep our phones for 2 or 3 years before updating & being unable to (officially) use some software is a real PITA.
