Microsoft sets end-of-life for all Internet Explorer versions before 11

article published on 8 August, 2014

Microsoft has selected an end-of-life date for older Internet Explorer browser versions, giving users until January 12, 2016 to use all versions before IE 11, if they want to keep up-to-date security that is. The tech giant will no longer provide security updates for the browsers or any other tech support after the date, if you are using IE 8-10, which many corporations still use despite ... [ read the full article ]

I haven't used their crappy browser in years. Every other browser I have tried is faster and less cluttered.

If you use any of their operating systems and run Windows Update, you're using some form of IE.

And you sir are FORBIDDEN to ever touch a computer again for making a stupid statement in DEFENSE of IE.

As a networking guy who supports a fair amount of people's home PCs.....I tell EVERYONE in passing that if you don't want malware/spyware/popups, viruses, etc THEN USE ANY OTHER BROWSER THAN IE.

It's NOT just as fast as FF and Chrome or Waterfox, it is MUCH MUCH MUCH less secure than the others and riddles ALL COMPUTERS with popups even though "popup blocker" is turned on.

I'm just floored.........I can't believe you actually use IE and are on AD too. Newbie..........YES

Yet another nonsense statement.

Yes, IE is tightly integrated into all Windows OS's so much so that it affects the rest of the OS BUT.....To say "if you use then" is ridiculous because YOU'RE NOT 'USING' IE if you simply "use their OS and run Win Update".

Ugh.....pipe down and perhaps you should pay ME to teach you and work on your computers. 100 bucks an hour buddy!

You're using IE, if you use XP or earlier, quite true (if you're not using an alternative update pipeline, such as WindizUpdate, but that's relatively rare) but for WIn7 and later (I have no idea how Vista handles it, but likely just like Win7), no, you're NOT using IE; it's a separate Windows service.

That said, hearme0, what's with the personal attacks? You've been doing that a lot, lately, and it's NOT OK, dude, no matter how wrong you think someone is. This is not 4chan; just because someone is wrong, is not an excuse to be rude or insulting. I haven't flagged you yet, but it's only a matter of time before a mod brings you up short, if you keep it up.

IE is better than it was the trouble is its as easy to hack as ever, I like Firefox myself its improved in the last few updates some.

Copyright infringement is nothing more than civil disobedience to a bad set of laws. Lets renegotiate them.

Zippy, if you like Firefox, you ought to try out Pale Moo . Same Gecko engine as the core, but MUCH lower RAM footprint, among other nice features, even before you add RAM management plugins. Also much less dicking about with the interface than Firefox have been apt to do. It's also compatible with Firefox plugins and extensions =) .

I like Firefox but it is a resource hog.

As a web developer I'm happy I have more ammo now to not support these old crappy non-standards-compliant IE browsers!
