PS4's strong sales leaves confused strategy within Sony

article published on 21 August, 2014

Earlier this month, Sony proudly boasted that the hit PlayStation 4 console had reached 10 million units sold in just 9 months, a record for the company. While setting records for sales would normally be seen as a huge positive, the sales have left a confused strategy for Sony's head execs, who are now scrambling to figure out the future of the console. Sony Computer Entertainment ... [ read the full article ]

Sony says We've finally caught the goose that lays the golden egg! Now what to we do with the goose and all these eggs? It's hard to believe they didn't plan of this scenario too.

Apparently Sony cannot (or simply does not want to) understand that the PS4 is merely LESS CRAPPY than the XBone. It really is that simple. It doesn't hurt that it's also cheaper, to boot.

I think PS4 will do ok, eventually.
The trouble is, right now, the owners I know are admitting to being more than a little underwhelmed by the new console
(& for the sake of fairness I'm happy betting that applies to a lot of Xbox One owners too).
The compelling games just aren't there & the step forward from the last gen isn't exactly a huge 'wow factor'.
Not much of a surprise when they were built with HD TVs in mind & (realistically) a 1080p cap on res

They need to add "cool" features. When I bought my PS4 I was torn because I play fantasy football and the XB1 having the feature that keeps track of your team and sends notifications about your team had me very interested. By the cheaper price at the time sold me. Would love to see this "feature" on the PS4 or something equivalent.

Haha, that's priceless.

Sony can't believe that this time they ticked all the boxes and the public responded accordingly. :D

Isn't there something about building a better something and people beating a path to your door?

Sure, there's more to it and Sony should do their research anyway but it's my opine that regardless of smart TVs etc etc people still have a great deal of regard for a console. They relate to them, they grew up with them.

It's not just hard-core gamers imo. But, I suppose, they might run the Wii risk in that everyone buys the platform but SFA do anything much with it...

Its a lot easier being righteous than right.
