I got one (the newest version) w/ a 64GB microSD card and played with it for a few weeks, but then got bored with it. I know a few people who use one as a home network media server, but it's too slow to use for many other things.

I initially purchased the Model B with 256 Mb of RAM which isn't much....Version 2 of the Model B has 512 Mb of RAM but I'm not gonna be burning any BluRay's anyways.

I found the Odroid platforms have more kick than the R-Pi although now there are at least two other companies that are emulating the R-Pi form factor.

AND It's used for any device that you might want some cheap processing power for.

For instance people have adapted them for controlling cameras, solar arrays etc. So instead of having to find some expensive purpose-built thing for the job they just adapt this versatile device if they have the know how.

It not just for hobbyists. I do know professional people who have incorporated the raspberry pi into devices for their job.

It's basic board design has been copied for use in many devices too. It all stems from mobile tech.

Its a lot easier being righteous than right.
