i have a duo 2 on version 7 and it works great. i dont know why people buy those if they are so expensive. some people say they have more features or something like that but im guessing if it was the duo 2 that cost 70 dollars and the DSM3 for 20... people would say get the Duo.

wat im most concerned about is upgrading my modchip. i currently have a star v3 chip in my ps2 (its old and requires swap method only allowing me to boot cd disks. this requires me to upgrade now and would like to avoid doing it again in the future.) i am willing to pay the extra 30 dollarz if this will allow me to avoid upgrading in future. if not, are there any other reasons worth spending the extra money?

The DSM3 has an upgradable flash memory so u will not have to replace your chip after a while. that is not included in the Duo 2.

well it pretty much allows you to update the firmware that is on the mod chip. lets say some compnay comes up with a new way to prevent chips from working... you could get the update from DSM3 and then your chip would work where as the duo 2 would have to upgraded. so i guess in the long run the DSM3 will save you money.

That is only a concern if you are trying to install back ups to your HDD and only if you are using the Sony HDD. if you are using a 3rd party HDD then you will be fine.

I would go for the dms3 anyday. If new protection comes out just download new firmware from the website and hey presto. As nelswick said you will have to have a new modchip put in if you have the duo2 because if new games use new protection which the chip cant get around then you will not be able to play the new games and would end up spending more money on a new chip.

well even if a new ps2 protection is released, i'm sure a game patch that you can apply to the image will be released, like when those new anti-mod psx games came out.
