1.)Divx player 2.5
2.)sony cd-r
3.)cd burner 40x/12x/48x
4.)hp dvd rom
5.)dvds that i want to backup

By portable dvd player, I assuming that you mean a laptop computer.

You do not have a DVD burner but a DVD ROM.

You could use a program such as DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter to back up you DVD's to your harddrive (be aware that each backup will require approx 4 to 8 GB of hardisk space).

You will then need a program such as PowerDVD or WinDVD to read and play the movie saved on your harddrive.

DVD Shrink/DVD Decrypter software/guides available on this site.

Depending on your system you may be able to play thru Windows Media Player - if not you will need a program such as Power DVD/WinDVD

Half expected that he/she may have been looking for something like this - fail to understand why in light of the extra time/effort required.

I do not have any expertise in this area, other than know it is a time consuming exercise.

As suggested there are many guides available on this forum to assist the brave and daring achieve the improbale.

i wasn't trying to to be mean...i wish i knew more so i could help you out...you are right, it takes a good few hours to complete the process...i find it hard to believe that none of the experts have replied to help you...they are usually extremely good about helping everyone...try starting a new thread with the title "having trouble converting to vcd"
