recently i have been ripping and backing up dvds on a ricoh burner all discs would play in my stand alone dvd but my dvd pc would not recognise the video files and the same problem posted by many users with replies mainly relating to 'scratched disc' etc.to cut a long story short i went out and purchased a new pioneer burner and the problem has disappeared sorry folks this is not really a cheap remedy but it worked for me,drsleep
