I'm having Problems with BackItUp. If I use a blank CDR, all is well and the back up proceeds. If I insert a blank or InCD formatted CDRW for a backup, the application hangs. What is the problem here as I have used several CDRW discs in case one or two were faulty, but no joy. I don't want to use CDRs to back up to because of the waste factor. Help!

Well, first of all, why would you want to use CD-RWs for backup? They are soo much more unreliable than CD-Rs. What waste factor? CD-Rs are cheap, and if you data is important enough to backup, you might as well sack up and buy some more CD-Rs.

That said, you have to make sure that you select the proper type of media before you try to burn. Are you doing this? There is a dropdown menu full of choices (DVD+/-R, CD-R, or CD-RW if i'm not mistaken). It might be that you have cd-r selected and are trying to burn to a CD-RW.

With our Nero BackItUp program, it should not matter if the media is CD-R or CD-RW media.

Sounds like another program may be grabbing the disc.

Do you put the CD-RW media in the drive before you launch Nero BackItUP, or after?

I would recommend trying the following. Without any media in your recorder, launch Nero BackItUP and go through selecting the data you wish to backup. Do not put any media in the recorder till Nero BackItUP asks for it. If you do it in this fashion, does it work? If it does, then some other program was grabbing the drive, such as our InCD 4 software, or XP, etc.

If you still have trouble, try tricking it, just as a test. For the first disc, use a CD-R, then when it asks for a second disc, insert a CD-RW. Does this work? (This is not a solution, just a way to help isolate the problem.)

Regards,

Craig
