Hi I'm new to the fourm, and I've been having searching various places for help, but this place looks the best.

I want to play a Japanese import(DVD game not CD), but I'm pretty clueless on the subject. I have a CD burner(not DVD), and a v4(positve SCPH 3000something). I really dont wanna buy anything over the net, or install anything and I also dont wanna hinder online play. I've heard gamesharks or action replay can be used, but I'm not sure how to do it. Also it can't have anythig to do with a USB cuz my comp doesn't have one( yeah its old)

Geez, you are very picky, seems to me you are hoping for your PS2 to magically play imports without doing ANYTHING at all.

First of all, I HOPE you're not hoping to play a Xenosaga import, because it's nearly impossible to do so without a mod-chip, and anyways, you would need a DVD Burner and lots of patience to try it out.

Anyway, there's no way to boot up an import with JUST Action Replay or GameShark, you will need either a Flip Top Cover or an Slide Tool, now, forget about the Flip Top Cover, since you need to shop online for it, so the Slide Card is your only option.

Since you're so picky, I dont know if you will even like the slide tool. The Slide Tool is a small piece of plastic that you slide under the PS2's tray to hook a certain piece of the tray and pull it out, without pressing the eject button (thus, the PS2 does not detect that you took out the tray, which is vital for swaping methods).

Basically, you would use the gameshark as a "Boot Disk", then use the slide tool to take out the GameShark and put in your import game.

I use Swap Magic Disk (also sold on internet) as a boot disk, so I don't know the exact process with GameShark on Action Replay, but regardless of your boot disk, Im SURE you will have to use the slide tool.

The Slide Tool is sold online along with the Swap Magic Disks at a reasonable low price, but again, since you dont want to buy online, then you would have to search online for a "slide card template", which you can print, then just cut it and paste it on top of an used credit card or any generic plastic card you dont need anymore, and cut it accordingly to the paper pattern, and there! you have a home-made slide card.

To use the slide tool you must remove the front cover of the PS2 Disc Tray, which may involve taking out some screws of the tray, depending on your model, and if you mess up while doing it, you may break the small flips holding the cover, and you won't be able to put it back.

If you're still interested, check out this tutorial :

Altough it lacks images, but it should give you an idea.

Don't bother with the other tutorials, since all of them involve resources you don't have access to.

Yeah well i really wasn;t expecitng much besides a slide card or flip top. Doing home made stuff is never wokred well for me so I guess buying online is inevitable. I hear the flip top is better though(easier steps to peform, but voids warranty.) I've also heard of the slide card wrecking disc drives.

Myabe Ill jsut import for GC, I jsut need to buy a seperate mem card.

oh and fyi I wasn't going to get xenosaga, because I didnt liek the first and Importing a Japanese RPG is pretty much useless.

Well, if you tend to buy foreign games a lot, better buy a DVD loader or something like that to play imports. I'm european and have a Game loader for USA/JAP imports. Try lik-sang or some of those sites. They'll problably have it.

Breaker Pro is essentially a "Swap Magic" disc, but for PSOne games. It can also be used to aid you in playing PS2 DVDRIP games.
