How do I figure out what speed my cousin's DVD burner is capable of?

My cousin isn't the most tech savvy guy out there, so I was wondering if I could - through Windows XP - figure out what speed it can go up to. Currently he's burning at 2X for DVDs and 8X for CDs, and the DVD burn seems a little slow. Thanks!

Try using Nero Info Tools to get the make/model of the drive and then visit the manufacturer's website for the specs.

A rough method is to guage the speed by the burn times assuming the drive is set up correctly.

2X - 30 min.

4X - 15 min.

8X - 8.5 min.
