File Size to big when i convert riped DVD's to Avi

I use the smart ripper to rip DVDs and then i use DVDX to convert. Im trying to use 640X480 resolustion and an alright quality. I've downloaded plenty of movies and stuff but they all have awsome quality and fit on one or two cds. all the files i have created are using four to five cds. i dont know what to change to get this formula correct. I have also looked at the properties of the files that i have downloaded but some of the options arent the same as the settings i can change on DVDx. any suggestions about formula or the programs im using? I'd really appreaciate it.

I had a similar problem, only to find out CDex was not converting my WAV files to nice and tiny RiffWAV (WAV wrapped mp3) files.

I used AudioCatalyst (commercial mp3 encoder) but later found an older (not beta) version of CDex (freeware) that did do the job. This may not be your problem, but maybe it is. Check the size of the audio files. At 160 bit rate, the audio file size should be in the ballpark of 1mb per minute of movie. Hope this helps.
