Can someone simply explain what else I can do to improve BitTorrent download speeds. I have searched through the forum for answers and although there is lots of suggestions it's all confusing to me and I'm not sure how it applies to my setup. (I have XP, 1.8, 512 memory, Belkin Router F5D5231-4, Norton Systemworks 2003, Internet Security, NTL 600K modem connection) I have configured the Belkin Router Port forwarding settings to 6881-6889. I have also configured the internet Security Advanced Firewall settings to permit 6881-6889 inbound & outbound. My average download speed is about 10kb, meaning I experience 3 to 6 kb at times and 15-25kb at other times but that's about it. I read about others getting speeds at 80kb - 135kb plus. How I wish! Does anyone know what I can do with my setup to improve download speeds. I want to have a secure connection on the internet yet enjoy it at the same time! Thanx in Advance!

NTL 600K modem connection
the maximum speed you can get is (Very Maximum)
70-75kbps

the reason people are getting higher is because they have faster connections cable/1mbit

it depends on three things

1. the tracker

2. the seeds

3. the connection speeds of the seeders

if its a good tracker - your lucky - if it isent nothing can help you

how many seeds is important anything between 70 and 200 is good

but - if the seeders are all on 56k it will be slow

this is why youve had varying speeds it depends on the seeders with the files if they all have 56k be prepared to wait man :D

hope this has informed

LoNeR, Your comments make sense to me. I think my ports are set up best they can. I wondered if NTL broadband had download restrictions compared to others. Last week I downloaded a 750 MB torrent just over 6 hours. This week I downloaded a 700 MB torrent and it took 15 hours to complete. As you say "same Shit, Different Day" - I'll put up with it!
