You probably blew a fuse on the motherboard somewhere as no-solder mods are known to do. Do a search for "fuse" for more threads related to this issue. To repair the problem soldering skills are called for and replacement is moderate to difficult to complete.

Can you recommend a place who might be able to fix the fuse?

Most places that install modchips will likely know how to fix the problem. I had this issue occurr on my v4 PS2 and ended up simply just junking it for parts.

Interesting set of choices. Backups for the Gamecube haven't really come that far along yet. I could care less about the Sh*tbox personally, and the PS2 is built on cheap hardware that is often prone to failure or other mysterious issues, particularly with DVD movie playback. The new v9 and v10 PS2's are pretty reliable and if you're going to buy a new one and don't have much soldering skill I suppose you have an opportunity to buy a pre-mod online.

All of my favorite old Nintendo games are now 3D which is a big turnoff for me. Combined with the fact that backups aren't that far along for the Gamecube and that the controller for the Gamecube is pretty retarded in my opinion my personal favorite of the three is the PS2. Lately I've been playing my Gameboy Advance more than all three put together.

The majority of the problems people have getting backups to boot are related to people using the swap technique to get them to run. It's very rare for someone to post with a problem getting a backup to run on a PS2 with a no-swap modchip installed. After about a week of using the swap method to boot I got frustrated with swapping and installed a no-swap chip and haven't had any problems since. Got sick of things like "that games requires CD Loader to work with Swap Magic..." or "this game requires DVD Loader..." and "oh, to boot PS1 games you need Breaker Pro...", etc.... You get the message. Those are some of the issue you will have to tolerate if you choose to use any Swap Magic based method. You should also look into the HD Loader/HD Advance products. Not every game works but no disc swapping is required in order to backup original discs.

I can't recommend anybody as how I do all of my own work. Bought my Magic V from GoCybershop. Don't remember the actual url but if you goto http://www.playstationmodchip.com it'll lead you to the place. I like my Magic V but there are newer chips out now. DMS3 seems to be a favorite but extremely difficult to install properly. If you're going to get an expert to do it for you that shouldn't be an issue.
