Ok, I have been using the following to rip/burn DVD;s
O/S: W2K
External DVD-R: Sony DRX-530UL
IEEE 1394 PCI card: Adaptec Firewire Card
Ripping Software: DVD Shrink 3.2
Burning Software: Nero 6.1 Ultra
Media: RICOH-JPN / CMC-MAG
My success rate using the above method has been about 95%. In those few cases where decryption failed with DVD shrink, I tried to use DVD Decrypter 3.2 to rip the DVD and then use DVD shrink to compress them. When I open up DVD Decrypter and try to decrypt, i get the following error: "Cannot read from file: VTS_01_2.xxx" and the reason states is "DVD Drive has not been authenticated". When I try to authenticate, i get the following message: "ASPI Manager was not found on system". Ok, what I don't understand is, since I am running an external device (my sony DVD-R) via an IEEE 1394 PCI card, what difference does it make what ASPI drivers I do, or do not have?? My understanding is, that the advanced SSCI programming interface drivers are essentially drivers which enable programs/hardware to communicate with SCSI and ATAPI devices, such as internal CDR-W's, DVD-R, etc. Since I am accessing my DVD-R via a IEEE 1394 device, why is the ASPI driver issue even a problem?? Why can't DVD Decrypter interface with my DVD-R via my IEEE 1394 card without my ASPI drivers being a problem?? I can't find any info on this, except that I need to download ASPI drivers (take your pick, from NERO or microsoft, etc). My PC is currently running fine and I would rather not screw around with downloading any addtional ASPI drivers. Can DVD decrypter work with an external DVD-R via a IEEE 1394 device??? Thanks in advance for any help.
