VLC media player is now a universal Windows 10 app

article published on 6 July, 2016

VideoLan has built a universal Window platform (UWP) app for their popular VLC media player, meaning it will eventually work across Windows 10 devices, Hololens and Xbox One. The new app is in beta but already appears to have some cool features. As with desktop versions, the app will support nearly every type of file format, will offer a media library for managing content within the app ... [ read the full article ]

despite being the most popular player, it could never be able to be the best in either of the OSs. for instance, now, MPC/KMP/pot player (or even others) are better in windows, MX is better in android, plex is better in mac, and so on.

Personally I like VLC more than the others you listed, at least on Windows. Mater of personal taste and what you use it for I guess. If I had an xbone, I'd be looking forward to having a decent media player for it...one designed for media on the LAN and Internet especially. Of course, if I had an xbone (or ps4) it would be on Craigslist.

I like it too but friends of mine like Pot Player because apparently it does more than what VLC can do.... like play BluRay isos and it does all the HD audio formats VLC wont touch which was a big deal to one mate of mine.

For Android, MX Player definitely has a superior interface, imo, but BSPlayer (also free) can often play unconverted 720p/1080p 10-bit h.264 or h.265 encodes without lag or desync issues, where MXPlayer can sometimes lag a bit, even on a reasonably recent LG G2. I use BSPlayer as the fallback, essentially.

I'm glad you found an app that works for you, and efficiency has benefits even if the device has enough power that it isn't needed. BUT the LG G2 is almost 3 years old at this point and it was never intended for video...it didn't have even have enough space for a smallish mp3 collection, let alone bd rips.

bad, bad, bad. other than the intel 6th gen CPUs, nothing else is playing the 4K HEVC 10 bit videos no matter which hardware or app you are using!!! should i switch to a new win tab hybrid just for the sake of some HQ videos (important to me)?
i guess even the latest note 7 won't play them since it is using the SD 820 (i currently have LG G4 which has SD 805).

And? the point is that some Android apps are more adept at playing video; I wasn't bragging about the phone =p .
